COUNTY REPUBLICAN ESTABLISHMENT CHUCKS THORNTON

February 26, 2010 - In the most well orchestrated political maneuver pulled off by the Cape May County Republican establishment in years, all of the remaining incumbent Freeholders as well as the Sheriff, the Surrogate and the County Clerk, all Republicans, today endorsed incumbent Freeholder Ralph Bakley and Challenger John McCann in the intra-party Freeholder endorsement process.  The endorsement, announced in an email from Norris Clark, leaves long-time incumbent Freeholder Gerald Thornton in a decidedly underdog position heading into municipal caucuses which must be completed prior to a March 15, 2010, Republican Leaders Meeting.

LOWER TOWNSHIP INCUMBENT QUESTIONS ENDORSEMENT PROCESS - NOLAN SAYS THE PROCESS IS SOLID

In a February 25, 2010, post on our Facebook Group, "Mike Donohue's GOPLOG.com", incumbent Lower Township Councilman Glenn Douglas questioned the legitimacy of the endorsement process in Lower Township.  Here is the post from the GOPLOG Facebook Group:

Glenn Douglass Lower Township town to watch. Incumbent candidate Glenn Douglass submits letter of intent by due date Feb 15 Chairman Nolan accepts late letter of intent Feb 19 states Lower organization has own bylaws with letter of intent due date Feb 23 does anyone have a copy of new bylaws for lower and did they go through the proper procedure to approve new bylaws??

Chairman Nolan told the local media recently that the local by-laws allow the date to be set differently from the County Republican date of February 15th.  Nolan said the by-laws were properly adopted by the Lower Township Committee long ago and readopted with an unrelated amendment in 2009.

That's the latest.........
